Tebi Rex.

Over the past ten years Tebi Rex have proved themselves as a creative powerhouse on the Irish music scene. Releasing two thought provoking, theme driven albums and a host of singles and EPs they have built from roots as an alternative hip-hip duo to produce a wealth of material that has brought in different influences and collaborations with a series of their peers. They have also played shows and festivals across Ireland, UK and Europe, performed online for SxSW and Eurosonic and featured on the Normal People soundtrack amongst other achievements. This summer will see them release their third album Fin. - a record that will also be their last.

Perhaps the clues were always there. Tebi Rex’s debut album The Young Will Eat The Old examined the rise and fall of an artist in three acts. Released in February, lead single and album title track ‘Fin.’ set the tone for what was to follow. A “vibrant, euphoric alt-dance anthem" (ROTD), the single received acclaim in the UK and Ireland, saw them record a session for BBC Introducing and was named her track of the week by RTE 2FM’s Tracy Clifford.

Each song on the album will focus on an ending in one form. Latest single  ‘I’m cooked, I’m done.’ is a love song - an ode to the moment that the single version of you dies. You fall in love for the first time, then for the last time. A partner becomes a husband. Your school romance moves further and further away.  Passion becomes a tender memory. Unfamiliarity turns to devotion. Music, people, life...you love for as long as you can. Until the end.

The track features spoken word artist Natalya O’Flaherty, revisiting a long standing creative relationship that first appeared on that very first album. The three narratives on the track combine to tell a story of an ending of one life and the beginning of another. ‘I’m cooked, I’m done.'  formed a key part of Max Zanga’s debut play Fin. – The Harbinger of Deathstaged at Smock Alley Theatre as part of Scene + Heard Festival.
