Filmore!.
When Filmore! first arrived in the summer of 2022 with the genre-mashing ‘Where’s Your Hall Pass?’ the track was credited to Maximus Filmore, allegedly a school safety patrol officer who frequently took things a little too far – as detailed in the video that accompanied the track. The perpetrator was soon revealed as Max Zanga and the music to be part of a wider project commissioned by the Dublin Fringe Festival. Leaning into the absurdity of the world today with a strong focus on power and violence through the use of immersive storytelling. Zanga received the George Fitzmaurice Award for experimental art for creating an installation that combined striking visuals and imagery while exploring the complexities of youth and nostalgia.
Debut mixtape Filmore! served as a message to witness the absurdity of today’s society using ultra-violent themes in tracks like previously released Fuck ‘Em Up (200k + Spotify streams), pop-punk collaboration Ingrid’s Song, and iconic debut single Where’s Your Hall Pass which were supported by Spotify’s Misfits 2.0 playlist, New Music Friday, The Lockdown and also picked up support from Tidal’s - Rising UK & Hyper Amped along with backing from the likes of The Line of Best Fit, Earmilk, District and Hot Press, granting him the title - “Gen Z Tyler The Creator”. Live appearances included Ireland Music Week, Other Voices and All Together Now as well as performances at curated events across Dublin.
Idle Death Gamble is the culmination of a year-long journey through the volatile world of music creation. Filmore! has never shied away from the raw and the real, and this EP is no exception. It's a sonic exploration of the co-dependent, manipulative, and financially draining aspects of an artist's life, captured with unflinching honesty. The EP reflects the reality of the artist’s life - one that’s fraught with the crushing taste of defeat and the exhilarating highs of success.
This is a project born from a place of darkness, but it's this very darkness that fuels Filmore!'s creative fire. How much longer can he sustain this cursed energy? Place your bets.
