With the Irish urban and hip-hop scenes constantly expanding to include new genres and sounds, the increasing influence of Afrobeat is being felt across the country - not least in the music of young artist and video maker Sequence. Over the past year his string of releases have seen him build an audience both at home and in the UK, the latter through his appearance on the influential Afro Bashment Spotify playlist, culminating with this summer's debut Take Time EP and Longitude festival appearance.
He returned with a new track in collaboration with Irish MCs Mac and Reggie, a tribute to the joy of designer wear that was a million miles away from the braggadocio of some artists. A catchy, calm bop with hard hitting bars, 'On Me' once again saw Sequence up the ante and came complete with yet another self-directed video. Having taken a break from releases to work on his New Eire video platform, he returned in early 2020 with the single 'Pimpin’ and the Misunderstood EP - collection that also included the Afropop anthem 'Shine'.
His latest release sees him team up with fellow Galway resident LukeFly for 'Free', once more combining cutting edge beats with an ear for melody and already receiving support from the likes of Spotify, BBC, Rinse FM and Reprezent. It will be followed by more tracks and videos before the end of the year,
